Brendan Rodgers has never been afraid to talk a good game and I suspect he has the mettle to back up the rhetoric with action when required and for that reason I think Luis Suarez has played his last game in a red shirt.
The serial biter, diver and cheater who has been dragged over the coals for his racist spat with Patrice Evra has no place in a Liverpool shirt and should be shown the door marked exit forthwith.
Brendan Rodgers will feel betrayed by a player that he has supported so wholeheartedly but the truth is that the manager has been backed into a corner by his own words and not taking action is not an option for him.
To all those fans who want to keep the player I say this:
Sometimes in life you do silly things and make mistakes. But most of us learn from them and try not to repeat them. Suarez is not one of those people.
When the red mist descends anything can happen and if the diving and cheating wasn’t enough for you then the biting should be.
If you keep the player it will happen again. Maybe not biting next time but unsavoury incidents will keep occurring.
To be able to lose your head so completely that you choose to sink your teeth into an opponent out of sheer frustration – not once but twice – remember Suarez has already served a seven game ban in Holland for biting an opponent, shows deep rooted psychological problems that will not go away whilst he continues to play the game.
Drawing comparisons with Eric Cantona, or even Jermain Defoe who also bit an opponent and received a yellow card will not wash. Suarez is a liability and wanting to keep the player because of his ability alone shows a narrow mindedness that true Liverpool fans should be ashamed of.
Keeping a player who bites, dives, cheats and is generally obnoxious on the pitch simply because you want his thirty goals a season is a selfish attitude that should have no place on the Kop.
