What an incredible year it has been for British sports betting and the achievements of many of the heroes from 2012 will be celebrated on Sunday evening as the Sports Personality of the Year Awards take place from London’s ExCel arena. 2012 has of course seen the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games take place and they will both go down as two of the best in history. Not only that, we had the ‘Miracle in Medinah’, where Europe’s golfers produced a stunning comeback to claim golf’s Ryder Cup from the United States of America, an Englishman won the Tour de France, a Scot claimed a Grand Slam in tennis and there was one of the most dramatic finishes to a Premier League season ever.
2012 has already been a fantastic year of sport, but it is about to get even better as we are only a couple of weeks away from the Ryder Cup.
Taking place at the Medinah Country Club in Illinois, this is the 39th time Europe and USA have gone head to head for the famous Ryder Cup trophy and it should be quite the contest.
It is in the hands of Europe at the moment of course, so the American team are very much out for revenge. With home advantage and arguably their strongest team for a few years – containing an in-form and focused Tiger Woods – they are targeting victory and nothing less.
Can Tiger Woods justify favourite status?
The golf course at Royal Lytham and St Annes will host the 2012 British Open Golf Tournament this year.
Last year we had a fantastic finish with Darren Clarke holding off the challenge of the two Americans Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson for an overdue major victory.
This year's event is going to be one of the most hotly contested in history with a raft of players in contention to lift the Claret Jug.
