Last years winner Jenson Button is good value at 10/1.

A quick 500 mile dash across Europe from Hockenheim to Budapest and the middle race of the season before a five week hiatus.

The Hungaroing ran its first race in 1936 in Budapest and attracted a huge crowd but unfortunately due to the ensuing world war the race did not return for a further fifty years in 1986. At a shade over 4.3 KM the Hungaroing is one of the shorter Grand Prix circuits but because of general under use it is a dirty track and one that is very difficult to overtake on due to its narrow twisty nature.

Michael Schumacher holds the record for the most number of wins (4) followed by the great Ayrton Senna (3). There are a clutch of drivers who have two wins including Button and Hamilton and in fact the Brits have won four of six of the most recent Grand Prix's run here in Budapest.

The favourites:

Jenson Button has won twice here at the Hungaroing - in 2006 and 2011 whilst Lewis Hamilton has also done the double in 2007 and 2009. However at opening odds of 5.5/1 Hamilton does not represent value given this seasons history of pit problems and plain bad luck. Of course Hamilton will come good eventually and it could easily all come together in Hungary but Button is much better value at 10/1 being in the same Mclaren team as Hamilton and having a fantastic race in Germany.

Alonso is the clear bookies favourite at 3.75/1 with Vettel close behind at 4/1. Alonso had an immaculate drive in Germany and looks to have the perfect driver/car combination going into this race however Mclaren have recently upgraded their car and will have time to work on improving it before this race so they may well be closer to the Ferrari than in Germany

The bookies have it Aonso, Vettel, Hamilton and then Button with the Red Bulls following behind. Michael Schumacher put in one of his best performances of his career at the Hockenheimring and he is 26/1 to win in Hungary.

Even though it is difficult to pass Button has proved that it is not all down to qualifying coming from fourteenth on the grid to win in 2006 in a rain soaked race.

According to the latest weather forecasts there is an area of high pressure moving slowly across the Ukraine and this is expected to be followed by a period of unsettled weather on Wednesday and Thursday before the heat builds again over the next few days. If this weather pattern holds true then there is a real chance of thundery downpours for raceday which will play into the hands of Jenson Button who is an assured driver in the wet conditions.

Going by recent performances Alonso is justifiably the favourite but car upgrades, weather and fine driving mean that Button is where the value lies in this Grand prix at 10/1.

The Circuit:

Lap distance: 4.381 Km.

  • Race Length 306.663 km (190.560 mi)

  • Circuit Direction Clockwise

  • Capacity 200,000

  • Established 1936 (redeveloped in 1986)

Possible rain could deluge Hungary Grand Prix.
