Lewis Hamilton to end a four year wait for a British Grand Prix Winner
With Entrance tickets for the weekend starting at over £150 for the cheap seats, following Grand prix racing around the world is a lifestyle that most people can only dream of obtaining when you factor in ferries, airplanes and hotel costs.
However the good news is that the best place to watch formula one racing is on your TV at home.
Just leave a spare petrol can sitting in the corner with the lid off and put your head next to your car exhaust for five minutes while the missus revs the hell out of it just before the race starts and you are all set.
You get all the sensory effects of being at the race whilst actually being able to follow the cars around the track and see them overtaking. If indeed they do overtake which admittedly can sometimes be a rarity.
For added excitement you can set up the scalextric and get a few mates around to catch the cars as they whiz off at the bends which will give you an extra thirty seconds or so entertainment.
No. I'm not a fan and I'm definitely not a petrol head so take what I say with a pinch of oil when it comes to motor racing .
The last British winner was Lewis Hamilton in 2008 and David Coulthard in 1999 and 2000 whilst Damon Hill took the honours in 1994.
Sebastien Vettel won it last year, Webber in 2010 and Vettel again in 2009 so Red Bull's dominance over the past couple of years would appear to put them in pole position for this race.
However I did manage to catch the highlights of yesterdays Spanish affair and Hamilton was extremely unlucky not to finish on the podium after being shoved off the track on the last lap.
The McLaren is a competitive car as the parlance goes and all that is missing from the jigsaw is a pitstop crew that need to stop making mistakes and letting the side – erm – team down.
So I'm going for Hamilton to win the British Grand Prix on home soil and make up some of the deficit on Alonso in the championship race.
There is nothing wrong with the McLaren team that a bit of discipline in the pits will not fix and of course a sprinkling of lady luck would be nice.
