Title race wide open again?
Chelsea 2 Manchester City 1
Chelsea's victory over Manchester City last night proved one thing - no matter how many expensive recruits you bring into your system if they have the indiscipline and inclination to self implode you are always going to be up against it with 10 men only on the pitch.
For the third time this season City have lost a man to a sending off and this time it cost them dearly when they could so easily have gained a point from this game. This was City's first loss of the season but it could so easily have been their second as they were lucky to cling on at Anfield earlier in the season for an undeserved point there after having Mario Balotelli sent off in his 20 minute second half cameo.
This time it was Gael Clichy who saw red for an inexplicable lunge on 55 minutes and Joleon Lescott was the villain for a horrendous handball inside the area which led to the winning penalty midway through the second half. Frank Lampard thumping in and deciding to shoot straight down the middle with Joe Hart making a pre determined dive to his left. Andy Carrol must have been cursing under his breath.
This victory for Chelsea places them right back in contention and reins in Manchester City - but for how long? Some of their football in the first half was sublime and Aguro was outstanding in a first half that City dominated for long periods.
A good victory for Chelsea but I don't see the Sports betting bookies panicking just yet.
