If any Sunderland fans were thinking of turning up with a beach ball and giving Liverpool a helping hand then today would be the day to do it.
Liverpool are toiling away at the coal face with a blunt pick at the moment and until they get some semblance of a strike force in operation it’s going to remain that way until Daniel Sturridge returns or they find another goal scorer in the January transfer window.
Against Wimbledon the captain baled the team out of a hole with a wonderful Steven Gerrard trademark free kick but wonder goals are not going to keep coming every game and the bread and butter goals are just not there.
Surely Fabio Borini is worth taking a chance on spearheading the attack against the club that he went out on loan to last season?
Sure he ran around like a headless chicken when he came on against Arsenal in the Boxing Day fixture but he shows desire and he has some pace which can’t be said for Lambert who looks like he is running through treacle at the moment. Balotelli looks like he is shorn of all confidence and looks a shadow of the player at his best.
Give the lad a chance Brendan.
If Liverpool are going to have any chance of making the Champions League next season then they have to go on a winning run of games much like last season but it’s difficult to see it happening.
Sterling returns from a well-earned rest and he certainly looks like one player who has goals in him along with Coutinho but Henderson continues to blaze high wide and handsome.
I’m going for a draw in today’s game although Sunderland already have six of them on their own turf this season!
