Liverpool Will Hope To Ease Pain Of Last Seasons 6-1 Defeat
Liverpool travel to the Brittania stadium on Sunday and the scene of last season's horrible 6-1 thrashing that signalled the denouement of a season to forget for Liverpool fans.
Knocked out of the Champions League before making it through to the knockout rounds and losing to Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi final this was largely a season to forget with injuries to Daniel Sturridge and the ineffective Balotelli/Lambert combination rendering the Reds attack toothless.
Raheem Sterling was bright in patches but didn't look anywhere near the solution to Liverpool's attacking woes and now that he's moved on for a record fee it will be interesting to see what Firminho can bring to the cause as replacement.
In the past I've been highly disparaging of the "Cloggers" but after the last game I'm eating copious amounts of humble pie. Let's hope Liverpool can put in a better performance this time around.
Brendan Rodgers moved quickly in the summer to solve the deficiencies in the squad and the purchase of Benteke is a master stroke.
Many Liverpool fans don't see it that way but he's only 24, is a proven Premier League goalscorer and has the physical presence that is badly missing when the likes of Coutinho and Joe Allen are playing. The addition of James Milner gives more solidity to the squad.
Nathaniel Cline comes in at right back and the England International is a major upgrade on Glen Johnson who was running out of steam and up blind alleys and Gomez on the right looks like a big improvement on Enrique. Jon Flanagan is going to do well to get over his injury and claim a starting berth in this Liverpool team.
Stoke are 12/5 at Skybet to win this game which are value odds in my opinion. The 6/5 on offer for Liverpool to win don't look at all tempting in the least.
I'm going to back Stoke to win this game at 12/5 to return £34 and hope I lose my money.
