Southampton V Manchester United Football Betting Tips 20-09-2015
After a disappointing defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the midweek Champions League fixture Manchester United make the long trip down to St Mary's stadium to play Southampton in what has always been an entertaining if not glamorous tie over the years.
Southampton have a recent good record at home having lost just one of their previous seven fixtures at St Mary's but statistics can hide a multitude of sins and the more salient stat is that Southampton have won just two of their last eleven Premier League games.
The home side will be missing their first choice keeper as Forster is out injured along with Ryan Bertrand, Jody Clasie and Florin Gardos. United will be missing Rooney again but new boy Anthony Martial will get another chance to show his chops on the big stage.
In addition to Rooney, United also have the unfortunate Luke Shaw missing after his horrendous leg break and Phil Jones will also be absent from a less than convincing back line.
Southampton have made progress defensively since their 0-3 reverse at home to Everton and they have three consecutive clean sheets to show for their efforts. United are going to have to work hard to get a point here, never mind the three.
Three losses from their last six games on their travels show that this United side are not the force they were and I'm baffled by LVG's transfer policy in much the same way that Brendan Rodgers has defied logic with his.
I'm going for a home win on the basis that United have their midweek exertion to take into account, a re-jigged defence and Southampton have a good home record.
