Under pressure - LambertAston Villa don’t have much time to reflect on their shocking Capital One Cup exit to League Two Bradford City on Tuesday evening as they head to Millwall in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday.

In truth, this really isn’t the sort of game that Paul Lambert needs as it has the potential to be yet another banana skin the Villains. Millwall isn’t an easy place to go and get a result at the best of times, but when confidence is shot, it is even tougher.

Also, conditions are likely to be poor and the home crowd are sure to make this a hostile place for Villa’s youngsters to come and play their natural game. If ever the side need to show their character, is it right here. If they can win this match comfortably, they will show Lambert and perhaps more importantly the fans that they are up for a fight this season.

If they were to lose at the New Den, then there is every chance that the Scotsman would be on his way out of the club. Whatever was working at Norwich City just isn’t at Aston Villa. When they are good, they are a joy to watch, but the problem is, they are not often on top of their game.

Millwall can come into this one with the pressure off them as well as they are up against Premier League opposition. Despite possibly being the favourites for Friday’s match, the Lions know it is going to be a tough evening and they have to put in a big performance.

They are going well in the Championship and sit just outside the play-off places, so a cup run could do wonders for the confidence in the group. When you are not playing well, it can be a bit of a distraction, but the London side are putting in good displays and know that winning is a habit, so another victory is what Kenny Jackett is after here.

Neither of these two would fancy a replay, so all-out attack could be the tactic that both managers go for on Friday, which should make for thrilling viewing. It will be an interesting indication of the gap between the Championship and the Premier League - can a team going well in the second tier beat a struggling top flight club?

All shall be revealed from 7.45PM on Friday evening.
