The first instalment of an enthralling Super Sunday comes from the Etihad Stadium this weekend as Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur in what is sure to be a thrilling 90 minutes of action between two teams that love to attack and have bags of quality in their respective squads.
Neither of these two are in great form in the Premier League at the moment though, with City dropping points away to West Ham United on Saturday evening, whilst Tottenham were involved in the shock result of the weekend as they went down at home to Wigan Athletic.
Manchester City want the Premier League title again this campaign and despite not being anywhere near their best in the opening ten matches, they are still just two points off the top of the table and have remained unbeaten. Although they might not be winning every game, the Citizens are not losing either and that is the sign of champions.
Roberto Mancini needs his men to raise their game in this encounter though as they cannot afford to be below par against an opposition of this quality. With Manchester United playing on Saturday evening, City could be five points adrift by the time they kick-off and the pressure will certainly be on them.
As for Tottenham, it is inconstancy which has been their problem over the opening ten matches this season. They have won at places such as Old Trafford, but then dropped points at White Hart Lane to teams near the bottom of the table.
After such a poor performance and defeat last time out, Andre Villas-Boas has a job on his hands to reinstall the confidence in the side for this one. If Spurs are not at their best, they will be punished. As mentioned though, they did manage to win at United earlier in the campaign and showed they can compete with the best teams in the league on their day.
The likes of Gareth Bale and Jermain Defoe are likely to play a massive part on Sunday lunchtime. If Bale especially can get on the ball early and make things happen, then this could be a very good afternoon for the Londoners.
This fixture last season was one of the highlights of the Premier League season as City scored a dramatic last minute penalty to win the match 3-2. If we are treated to anything like that this weekend, then this could go down as a Premier League classic.
