Did Fenway Sports Group shoot the right man?
Damien Comolli goes back to his family in France with a gallic shrug of the shoulders and must be pretty displeased that he is taking the rap for Liverpool's poor performance.
As Dalglish said yesterday, he (Dalglish) pointed out all of the players he wanted and Comolli was Mr Fixit to get the deals done.
Talk about shooting the messenger.
Well someone had to be the fall guy and sacking Dalglish was not an option.
There has been plenty of talk bandied about how much Liverpool have spent on players in the past eighteen months but none about their "net spend".
Recouping 50 million on Fernando Torres is a good starting point and clearing the decks of more than twenty professionals to reduce the wage bill is another.
I don't know how FSG managed to come to their conclusion, well yeah I'm not on dinner terms with John Henry but the players Comolli bought for Tottenham have turned out to be excellent buys and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Carroll, Henderson and Downing come good next season.
For all those that keep harping on about how Dalglish has been out of the game for so long and is using outdated coaching methods - what planet are you on?
First team coach Steve Clarke is one of the best in the business. Dalglish doesn't need to coach. I don't remember people complaining when Kevin Keegan had had enough of being on the golf course and came back to manage Newcastle? At least Dalglish has been inside a football ground before being made manager.
So to tomorrows game.
It's on ESPN which is a real downer as I got rid of my subscription ages ago. Being an FA Cup semi final you should find a good feed on Sopcast but I think I'm likely to go visit the pub and take the kids with me.
There will be an atmosphere there that's for sure.
It's a huge match for both teams.
Everton will be relishing the opportunity to put one over their rivals and Liverpool will be thinking that another cup final would salvage a dismal end to the season.
Liverpool have serious keeper problems with the nervy Brad Jones expected to take his place between the sticks. Lucky boy because he could so easily have been sent off against Blackburn.
Dalglish has some real selection headaches for a change.
Should Maxi start instead of Downing? 11 goals in 10 games says yes he should and Downing should start from the bench.
Should Carroll start instead of Kuyt? Yes he should. Full of confidence from his goal against Blackburn I'd start the pony tailed one.
Kuyt instead of Henderson? I'd play Henderson. He had his best game against Blackburn and started to show some of the skill that he has in his locker.
Gerrard will start and I'd pick Spearing to partner him in midfield. Spearing has been excellent recently and his accurate passing will be an asset on the big Wembley pitch.
Shelvey would be in contention to start as well.
"I think it's happened a lot of times, big players have had a big impact on big games but anyone can be the hero on the day. It's one of those occasions that's set up so well for heroes. Big games, big heroes - let's hope they're in red shirts. This is not only a semi-final is it? It is a semi-final against Everton. For everyone at this club and everyone at Everton this is massive. I'm not going to play it down because everyone knows how big it is for me and everyone at the club. " - Steven Gerrard will need to be at his outstanding best on Saturday.
Let's hope the sun shines and it's a great match.
