Can Liverpool finish on a high?
After the disappointment of The FA Cup Final it's back to the final home fixture of the season and Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield for an evening kick off live on sky sports.
For the last thirty minutes of the cup final Liverpool showed that they have the ability to live with – and beat the best teams in the premier league but it is consistency that is missing and the reason why they languish in mid table.
Liverpool have a good record against Chelsea winning five of the last seven league encounters and after betting on Chelsea to win the Cup final this time the money is going on Liverpool to win at home.
This could be the final appearance in a red shirt for Maxi and Kuyt before they depart in the summer and they will feature in the game at some point and get a rousing reception.
The home performances have been very poor and well documented here so let's not open old wounds.
Instead look forward to a good performance from the £35 million man Andy Carroll who at last looks as if he is beginning to justify his price tag and maybe Doni will replace Reina in goal with Aurelio also starting at left back in place of the fading Enrique.
Chelsea of course need to win this game to have any chance of qualifying again for the Champions league so this will be no rollover and anyway several of their players are excluded from the Champions league final so they will field a very strong team.
Dalglish needs to win his last two games to put some smiles back on the supporters faces. I'm sure he would be gone long ago if it wasn't for his legendary status on Anfield and finishing on a high is more important than ever.
Both teams have a lot to play for. Liverpool to win by a goal.
