A fool and his money are easily separated – anyone who thinks Liverpool can win this game is living in a dream world.
The problems for Brendan Rodgers just keep mounting and this is going to be the sternest test of his career. This is the moment when he shows himself to be the manager who surmounts a crisis or hides meekly with his tail between his legs.
I don’t believe this is a man who will succumb without a fight, however the resources at his disposal are becoming ever more limited and he really is fighting a losing battle with the current squad.
Where do we start with the analysis?
Brad Jones is a horrible deputy for Mignolet and its no wonder the manager took so long to make the decision to install the backup keeper. His terrible judgement of the Rooney opener in the last league game told everyone what we all suspected – this is a reserve keeper who should be playing first team football in the second division.
Tell me Cech would not have kept a clean sheet in the League cup game against Bournemouth.
The main problem for Rodgers is his clouded judgement. He is having a personal crisis of confidence and his insistence on picking out of form players is having the negative effect that we can all see.
The manager has always promised to pick “players in form” but this is clearly not going to plan.
Lovren is thankfully suspended for this game and he is put out of his misery for one week at least. He was horribly outpaced by the Bournemouth winger.
Balotelli is suspended for this game and that tells you everything that is wrong with the setup right there. I don’t believe he was a Rodger’s signing – he categorically stated at one point that the player would never come to Anfield.
Sterling is still learning his trade, but he is not an Owen or a Fowler. He has fantastic ability but his finishing is horrible and it shows the paucity in attack that Liverpool possess.
A draw is the best that Liverpool can hope for.
