Man of the match - Downings first LFC Goal

Man of the match: Stewart Downing.

Villain of the match: Fulham FC.

Moment of the match: Agger blazes over from two yards.

A deserved victory for Liverpool who dominated the game and played an awful Fulham side off the park.

Stewart Downing was my man of the match and if he can keep this form and improve on it then it will be like a new signing for the reds.

Enrique was also impressive and Johnson... what has he been eating? Whatever it is I'll have some of it because the left back is looking absolutely scintillating and in red hot form.

The signs are that Rodgers' work is starting to show in performances on the pitch and he is making the right moves in new contract dealings.

This Liverpool team may be a work in progress (isn't any team) but this result and team performance convinces me that he is more Henry V than David Brent and the Liverpool match preview takes on new significance.

The worrying aspect for Rodgers is the noise volume coming from the Anfield faithful. Just what is going on here – many times the players calling for the ball were more audible over the crowd.

The problem is that expectations have been dealt such heavy blows in the past few years that the crowd has started to underachieve in its own mirror of performances on the pitch. Getting behind a successful team is easy enough but when the going gets tough we need to start making some noise or we are in danger of becoming a parody of our own selves.

It may be unpalatable to be in the bottom half of the table and not in the champions league but these are the times when supporters need to step up to the plate and make their voices heard and try to make a difference.

I believe that in Brendan Rodgers we have found a manager with principles and a hungry desire for success that should see him become an Anfield legend. The contract disputes with Sterling and the noises being made over the Sturridge deal are all reassuringly good news and hopefully it means the days of spunking cash where it is not needed are over.

That is not to say that I don't think Dalglish could have achieved the same or better. We are where we are and you can't turn back the clock. I would have kept Dalglish on the basis that he had reached two cup finals and Andy Carroll was really starting to look a handful in the last couple of games he played for us.

The decision has been made and you cannot deny that Brendan Rodgers is starting to have a real impact here. The improvements in Enrique, Downing and Johnson are there for all to see and the trust in young players (something that Dalglish never had) is being repaid.

All we need now is for the Kop to start to regain their voice and begin to believe that their team will once again rise to great heights.

We are only one or two players away from becoming champions league contenders again. If we can beat Fulham 4-0 with only one fit recognised striker on the books then no matter how bad Fulham were then we are headed in the right direction.
