A shock at Mansfield? And so with the Christmas and New Year festivities dispensed with we can get on with the really important stuff – winning some money!

Last year was a superb year for our sports betting previews as we picked a ton of winners and I aim to keep up the good work starting with a preview of the FA Cup third round.

Traditionally this is one of the best football weekends of the year as there are always shocks for one or two of the premier league teams as they enter the competition for the first time.

So let's have a look and see where we can find some value amongst the 32 matches being played this weekend.

As you can see above I've picked my feature match of the round and one of the most likely shocks. Aston Villa are struggling desperately in the treatment room with nine players currently receiving the physio's attention. Let's hope he (or she) is prepared to put in some long hours with an injury list that long!

On the face of it with Ipswich staring at the wrong end of the Championship table you would fancy Villa to overrun Ipswich but that isn't going to happen here. Ipswich are in with a real shout of a shock upset due to Villa's injury list.

Ipswich are 4/1 at Ladbrokes however the odds are shortening so by the time you read this if you can't get those odds on Ipswich to win then the draw at 5/2 also at Ladbrokes is a good bit of business.

The best odds for a real cup shock are at Championship side Middlesbrough where Hastings are the visitors. Coral will give you a massive 25/1 that Hastings are the victors here. They knocked out Harrogate in the last round but I think that shows what a bearing long distance travel has on sides that are physically inferior. This is going to be a step too far for Hastings and I expect them to get well beaten. It would need to be 50/1 before I'd consider giving that one a shot.

Next in the list of best odds are Watford who travel to man City. 18/1 is the bookies price for Watford to leave Mancini with egg on his face but as it's another tie where the home side are the much bigger club it's not really good value.

Good value can be found for Southampton to beat Chelsea at 9/2 Skybet.

With home advantage Southampton showed against Arsenal that their blend of youth and passing style is not just a pretty picture. That lad Shaw looks a real prospect at left back and he will have a long premiership career in front of him. He is another fantastic player to come through the Southampton youth ranks but no doubt they will sell him to Arsenal as they did with Walcott and Oxade Chamberlain which is a real shame for Saints fans.

West Ham are the same price 9/2 Skybet to beat Man United at home so I think getting on Southampton is the better home bet for our outside chances.

Crawley Town could be fertile ground for an upset as they take on Reading at home. Get 85/40 that Crawley Town win this one a £10 bet wins £31.25. With Reading in dire straits and in horrible form this looks like a good value bet for a home win.

And lastly we have Liverpool visiting Conference side Mansfield on Sunday afternoon. What a treat!

The only downside is that this match is being covered by ESPN and as I still refuse to pay the extra £10 or whatever it is per month for another pay per view channel I'll be watching with probably Russian commentary on Sunday afternoon.

This is probably as close as I am ever going to get to seeing my hometown club AFC Telford play the mighty reds. Mansfield have been through the same off pitch struggles as Telford and they sit in ninth place in the Conference. With a ground capacity of 7,500 this is going to be culture shock for Liverpool's aristocrat players.

Daniel Sturridge will make his Liverpool debut after signing from Chelsea and Brendan Rodgers is likely to make a raft of changes to his threadbare squad made even skinnier by the impending sale of Joe Cole to West Ham.

At 14/1 I'm having some of that even though I fully expect Liverpool to crush the conference side but with the reds ability to keep missing chances one goal is all it takes for the minnows!

Get 14/1 at Betvictor that Mansfield pull off the shock of the FA Cup third round
