Manchester City and Chelsea lock horns in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon and we are all set for a cracking 90 minutes – possibly more – of action in London.
Chelsea are of course the current holders of this competition and have won it four times since 2007, so they certainly know what it takes to win these big matches, but the Citizens lifted the famous trophy back in 2011 and with this being their only chance of silverware this campaign, Roberto Mancini is sure to have his men fired up for this one.
City should come here in excellent spirits as well as they were 2-1 winners at Old Trafford against bitter rivals Manchester United on Monday evening and although that result hasn’t really changed much in terms of the title race, it would have given Mancini’s side a lot of confidence ahead of this trip to Wembley.
In the FA Cup, the Champions of England have had a fairly straight forward journey to the semi-final as they have scored 13 goals and are yet to concede in their four matches. They have only taken on Stoke City from the Premier League, with the other three games being at home to Championship opposition.
Sergio Aguero scored a stunning goal in the victory over United on Monday and he could come back into the starting eleven for this one. It has been a frustrating campaign for the Argentine, but we know how much he loves to shine on the big stage. 6/1 is the best price you can get on him scoring first.
As for Chelsea, this will be their sixth game in 15 days, so there are sure to be some tired legs out on the Wembley pitch, but we know just how strong the Blues are in this competition and that they are desperate to lift the trophy this season.
Rafael Benitez has had a tough time at Stamford Bridge and he would love to take the side to the final at Wembley and as they are going up against Manchester City, the Spaniard knows his men have to be at their best.
The attacking trio of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Oscar could all feature in this one and they will be looking to provide that touch of class in the final third. Mata has been the standout player for the European Champions this campaign and if he gets on the ball in this one, then the midfielder will be a real handful for City to deal with.
Mata is excellent value at 11/4 to score at anytime on Sunday afternoon.
Millwall and Wigan Athletic play in the other semi-final on Saturday, so you would say that the winner of this one is likely lift the FA Cup trophy this campaign. It should be a scintillating 90 minutes of action.
