LA Galaxy take on Barcelona in the International Champions Cup at the Rose Bowl early on Wednesday morning (04:00am GMT) as the Catalans start a three game pre season tour.
Former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard will be reaquainted with Luis Suarez although both will be playing on opposite sides in this sold out 90,000 seat spectacular.
Some of Barcelona's star players will be missing through extended holiday leave after their exertions in the Copa America cup. Messi, Neymar, Dani Alves and Javier Mascherano were all left off the "roster" so that they could get some valuable rest and recuperation in what seems like a never ending season for the top players and stars of the game.
Barcelona are the current UEFA Champions league cup holders and won La Liga last season so the players that will be stepping up will be no first team filler and any player that can pull on the famous Barcelona shirt will be of a standard that most other clubs can only envy.
Last season the LA Galaxy were thrashed 7-0 by Manchester United at the Rose Bowl and this is the first meeting between the sides since 2009 when one David Beckham scored the only goal for Galaxy in a 2-1 defeat.
Galaxy will also be missing several key players for this game due to national team call ups, most notably Gonzalez, Zardes and keeper Penedo but the forward line of former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard should have a goal in them - if they can get the ball off the scrooge like Spanish team.
