Arsenal v West Ham United 09/08/2015 13:30PM
Whisper it quietly but Arsenal are beginning to look like real title contenders.
The cruel jibe from Jose Mourinho that Arsene Wenger was a "specialist in failure" may well come back to bite him in the arse. After selling Petr Cech to one of their main rivals Chelsea have strengthened the Arsenal defence immeasurably and the new goalkeeper will be worth 15 points to the Gunners this season.
Some of the football played by Arsenal in the Community Shield was simply breathtaking and for Mourinho to come out in the post match press conference and suggest that Arsenal had played "against their philosophy" was a case of pot calling kettle black. Has the Chelsea manager no dignity or class left in him?
If you are a stats fan then note that Arsenal have lost just one of their last fourteen opening day fixtures whilst West Ham have lost nine. This looks like a nailed on home win.
In addition to that the Gunners won 13 and drew 3 of their final 18 league matches last season and finished very strongly only 12 points shy of Chelsea.
In pre Season Arsenal have looked very impressive with 5 wins from 5 as well as that Community Shield victory whilst West Ham have been slaving away at the coal face with Europa league qualifying matches since July 2nd.
West Ham have signed Peter Obiang and Angelo Ogbonna from Serie A but once again they will be without Andy Carroll who is not likely to feature until late october after recovering from a knee ligament injury.
Arsenal have won their last ten games in a row against West Ham and I don't see that run ending on Sunday.
