Telford United 1 Tamworth 0
"we are staying up, we are staying up"
A game littered with errors and not helped by the constant drizzle and grizzle was won by that man Phil Trainer who poached with 13 minutes to go and leave Telford fans looking forward to Conference football again next season.
The same player that scored the winner in last seasons play off final has now scored another vital goal to keep Telford in the Premier Conference division.
It was always going to be hard for Telford this season as they are a part time club whereas the Fleetwoods and Wrexhams of the division are full time professionals so a good job has been done by boss Andy Sinton to keep the Bucks up.
Around sixteen of the twenty four clubs in the conference are full time.
The side that took to the field last night was unrecognisable from the team that started the season. Only two or three players remain and the recruitment drive has been in full swing.
Of the old hands goalkeeper Ryan Young made a couple of good saves from long range efforts, Will Salmon was solid at right back although his distribution was wayward at times and of course Phil Trainer just keeps scoring vital goals from midfield.
Trainer earned the man of the match plaudits for his goal but for me in the centre of defence captain Blackburn was rock solid and won everything in the air. The former Stockport and Wrexham player had an excellent game.
Another former Wrexham player Ryan Valentine also played well at left back.
There are still two games to be played in the conference with a home tie against Grimsby on Saturday before a long trek up to Gateshead on the last day of the season a week later.
