Just got back from the hospital cafe where they asked me if I wanted anything on my burger:
"Would you like anything on that sir?
"A fiver each way please". Boom Boom!
It is Thursday, so you know what that means folks, it is time to look at the weekend’s football fixtures and make a bit of cash by placing a football accumulator… or three.
Last weekend wasn’t a great one as it was just one of those days on Saturday where the bets didn’t really get anywhere near coming in. It happens to the best of us, so there is no point reflecting on it too much.
Instead, let’s look ahead to what games are taking place this weekend and where the money looks to be. It’s there somewhere, I know it is.
First up, I am going for a draw treble that I think has every chance of coming in.
It has been a while since I have backed a few draws, but when looking at some of this weekend’s fixtures, I thought it is the way to go.
So here are the three matches I think will end in a stalemate.
Swansea City v Stoke City – Draw @ 23/10
Wigan Athletic v Sunderland – Draw @ 12/5
Crystal Palace v Bolton Wanderers – Draw @ 5/2
If you put £5 on this bet, you are looking at healthy returns of £196.35, so it would be a cracking afternoon should it come in.
Of course, you can alter this bet slightly if you feel as though one of the games will not end in a draw, but this looks good to me.
I think that Swansea and Stoke might both feel the strain of a busy schedule this weekend and this game could end up goalless. Wigan v Sunderland could be a similar sort of match.
Then, Dougie Freedman takes on Crystal Palace for the first time and with both sides desperate for a win here, there could be plenty of goals, so a score draw is what I think this will end in.
Right, with that done, let’s have a go at a big outside bet which is going to be a fourfold, but it is all about the underdog.
Newcastle United v Reading – Reading @ 15/4
Blackburn Rovers v Charlton Athletic – Charlton Athletic @ 3/1
Ipswich Town v Barnsley – Barnsley @ 3/1
Brentford v Tranmere Rovers – Tranmere Rovers @ 3/1
If you put £5 on this, you winnings will be in excess of £1,500 – which would be a fantastic day of course. £5 is my recommendation, although you can stake whatever you like.
Reading found some form last weekend and after watching Newcastle at Norwich last weekend, I cannot see where their goals are coming from.
Then, Ipswich always slip-up just as they look like going on a run, so I expect that to be the case this weekend.
Charlton and Tranmere need big performances to win of course, but they are capable and this bet might just be worth a punt.
Then, with such an enthralling Super Sunday taking place, I cant ignore it.
Chelsea take on Arsenal and then Tottenham Hotspur host Manchester United.
For these two matches, back Demba Ba and Robin van Persie to both score first in their respective matches. £2 will return £34.87.
