Price has picked a very tricky although ageing Southpaw.

Here is a very interesting fight coming up for boxing betting fans and it is one that you won't want to miss.

Unbeaten British Heavyweight Champion David Price is taking a giant leap of faith by taking on "The Tiger" American Tony Thomson who throughout a long career run has lost only three fights – two of those in bouts for the heavyweight championship of the world against Wladimir Klitschko.

The American's only other loss was an early career TKO to Eric Kirkland in his fifth fight.

Now 41 Thompson certainly doesn't have age on his side and we wait to see what sort of condition he is going to be in for this fight, but if he is in any shape at all then Price has a stern test on his hands for Thompson is a very experienced fighter.

Price is unbeaten in 15 fights and will be fighting in his hometown Liverpool Echo Arena but the odds on favourite is coming up against his stiffest opponent yet and I don't think Thompson is going to be written off so quickly.

Thomson has knocked out 24 of his 36 opponents and Price is going to do well not to make it 25. I don't see this fight as Price v a no hoper. In fact I think Price is stepping into very dangerous territory with this choice of opponent.

All of the detail is in the fitness and conditioning of Thompson. After tiring in the later rounds (about round seven) against Klitschko, Thompson doesn't have the fuel in the tank to take him long distances anymore and so he will be looking for an early knockdown to get this finished with.

For Price you only have to look at the way Tyson Fury dealt with his last opponent Kevin Johnson – another fighter past his prime – for the route to victory.

This fight should of course be Price v Fury but I think Fury is bidding to gain time and improve some more before taking on the excellent Price.

I've backed Price all the way through his career and I see no reason to stop now against what should realistically be a weaker opponent than Fury would have been. But the southpaw is going to be dangerous in the early rounds.

Make no mistake about that.

Tony Thompson is 11/2 at Ladbrokes to turn out 'Prices lights.
