When Liverpool qualified for the Europa League last season many Reds fans could be heard inwardly groaning at the thought of more Thursday/Sunday travelling and interference with work schedules.
Those thoughts will be banished on Thursday though when Manchester United stroll into town for what will be a memorable sporting occasion under the floodlights at Anfield.
These two teams have never played each other in European competition surprisingly so there is no precedent to go by. But who needs precedent to set before what will be a fantastic atmosphere and one of the highlights of the season.
Liverpool have been making steady progress in the Premier League helped by some large slices of luck but as I've remarked before – Klopp makes his own luck and the teams refusal to give up the ghost is what brought them the three points against Palace on Sunday.
They are now only three points behind United with a real possibility of making a late push for a Champions League berth and that is more a reflection on how poor the other fringe candidates have been rather than Liverpool's improvement. The points have been coming but you'd have to say that performances have been very hit and miss.
United are hampered by a succession of injuries that have left them shorn of first choice players and that has to be a major factor in this tie. Eight players are sidelined including Rooney, Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Schweinsteiger and Valencia. Shaw is a long term absentee with a broken leg.
It seems as though Klopp has all of his key men returning just as the season comes to the boil. Lovren was outstanding against Palace and with Sturridge an unused substitute in that game he will be fresh for this one.
United have been poor recently even though they have managed to eke out results and Liverpool have been able to rise to the occasion when it matters.
