Well four months sounds like the worst case scenario but Brendan Rodgers must be cursing the recent ridiculous England friendlies played at the death of the season.

Well four months sounds like the worst case scenario but Brendan Rodgers must be cursing the recent ridiculous England friendlies played at the death of the season.

Sturridge has ankle ligament damage which, depending on the extent, can definitely take up to four months to heal, never mind time for the player to get back up to speed and regain his fitness.

Just when Reds fans were beginning to look forward with renewed hope to the new football season we are hit with this damned injury and the news that Suarez wants to move through the door marked exit.

Even if Suarez stays at Liverpool he still has six games of his ten game ban to serve so both first choice strikers will miss the opening games of the new season.

It never rains but it pours. And when it pours it is followed by hailstones, floods, tornadoes - you name it we seem to have it.

The worry for the manager is that out of the four strikers on the books – Borini, Carroll, Sturridge and Suarez – all have had injury problems and if they are not injured they are biting someone to ensure that they are watching the game from the stands.

Once players start getting injured on a regular basis you can be sure that the trend will continue and it is worrying that we have so many players who keep ending up on the treatment table.

The news that Lago Aspas is being lined up for a medical later this week is great but this guy is a playmaker and not an out and out striker. He’s 25 so an upgrade on players like Sterling, Shelvey and Ibe who are all pushing for first team places but not quite first team material.

I’m afraid the dream may be over for one of these guys, in a red shirt anyway.

For those wanting to take a punt on Liverpool finishing in the top four next season Rodger’s is going to start having to pull some rabbits out of the hat in the transfer window.
