Poor Delia Smith, if she was going to start getting pissed up every half time and yelling at the crowd to “let’s be aving some” then now is the time to do it because Norwich have a fearful run of games to try and gain any points to stave off relegation.
They begin with this home fixture against Liverpool followed by away trips to Man United and Chelsea before playing their final home game of the season against Arsenal.
That’s enough to drive anyone wallowing in relegation trouble to have a few too many.
It’s hard to see Norwich picking up the odd draw never mind the minimum six points that might see them to safety and it is not looking good for them.
For this trip to Norwich the Reds have an injury doubt over Daniel Sturridge who has tweaked a hamstring and most likely will not be risked but might gain a place on the bench.
The big blow is Henderson who picked up a late red card against City and that has really taken the gloss off his fantastic season. It will be gutting for him to have to miss the next three games after being a regular starter and candidate for most improved player of the season alongside Raheem Stirling.
This really changes the dynamic of the midfield “diamond” because “Hendo” has such a terrific workrate and replacing him with Lucas, whilst not such a shabby option, lessens the potency of Liverpool’s counter attacking football.
Then again will Liverpool be doing much counter attacking? Norwich know they need the points but can they afford to go at it gung ho knowing that they are so vulnerable to being sliced open with the rapier attacks that will follow any attacking breakdown?
A ten game winning streak is looking likely to be extended here and you’d have to be a brave punter to take the 8/1 on offer from Bet365 for a Norwich victory.
However with Sunderland managing to come within two minutes of a stunning victory at the Etihad on Wednesday and Crystal Palace turning over Everton you just know that this is not likely to be plain sailing.
I’ll take a scrappy 0-1 win if you offered it now all day long.
