Man of the match: Luis Suarez

Moment of the match: How do you choose? The fantastic headed Suarez goal? The Sturridge chip? Suarez mazy run? It has to be the headed goal - how many times will you see another goal like that in your lifetime?

Moan of the match: Henderson needs shooting practice. Again.

Are the dark days of me moaning about woodwork hitting finally going to be consigned to history?

On this showing the answer is emphatically yes and even though Suarez still managed to smack the crossbar with an outrageous overhead kick and Sturridge screamed one against the bar, the smiling faces filing out of Anfield were like a ray of sunshine beaming out into the night sky.

This was a game to savour for Reds fans. Goal scoring of the absolute highest quality was on show and let no one be in any doubt: This Liverpool manager has what it takes to make the club great again.

Luis Suarez showed why Liverpool were so desperate to hold on to him in the summer with a display of masterclass finishing that puts him in the highest echelons of striking genius.

Running past one defender and then nutmegging another to finish with deadly accuracy before planting a long range header from fully 18 yards out these were two first half strikes that are up there with the best the Anfield faithful have ever seen.

After 17 minutes Liverpool had the game by the scruff of the neck 2-0 up and Lucas was back to his brililant best breaking up the play and tackling ferociously, alongside Gerrard who showed no mercy to anyone who got in his way.

The Liverpool midfield was purring like one of those merlin engines you hear when a spitfire passes overhead. Am I being melodramatic? This was one of the best displays from Lucas and Gerrard combined and the only blot was Hendersons shooting. More shooting practice for Mr Henderson this week please!

Suarez fooled everyone with a well worked training ground routine from a free kick.  A slide rule pass to Gerrard who passed it back to Skrtel and the defender miskicked horribly with the goal at his mercy otherwise Liverpool would have been out of sight by half time.

With 35 minutes gone Mignolet had yet to make a save and with half time approaching the closest West Brom got was a long ball over the top which was superbly rescued by Skrtel.

Liverpool attack the Kop in the second half and more great covering from Skrtel again shows why he has regained the managers faith and is one of the best performers in defence. He put Toure in the shade and that is quite some feat.

Some more woeful shooting from Henderson ensued before Suarez shows Henderson how to finish with a fantastic finish from a briliant Steven Gerrard free kick.

More good defending from Skrtel. Sturridge blazes over from a brilliant run and cross from Glen Johnson. More great defending from Skrtel. Liverpool are rampant and then Sturridge thrashes against the bar with a fantastic shot and is so unlucky not to score.

Martin Kelly makes a welcome return in place of Glen Johnson and then strangely the tide is turned and West Brom start to come back into the game.

Mcauley misses a great chance to pull one back for the Baggies before Morrison scores from a soft penalty award. Not much the referee can do if the assistant is flag happy.

Anichebe just fails to connect and that was a deciding moment because for some reason Liverpool are having second half jitters like they have all season.

Anelka is nowhere near the player he was at Anfield. He's hardly had a sniff today and the one chance he did have was lost when he would have netted in the past.

More brilliant delivery from Gerrard. The Captain is having a quite sublime game but despite this Liverpool have been knocked out of their rhythm and Anfield has become quiet.

Then out of nowhere Sturridge shows class with a fantastic sand wedge from 25 yards and catches the keeper unawares. Poor keepy - not much he can do because the shot is so perfect and he watches it float over his gloves and into the back of the net.

More sloppy play from Henderson before that Suarez audacious overhead kick which almost had the Kop in raptures.

Maybe not one of the best top ten overall performances but definitely in the top five for a game which had three absolutely brilliant goals and the Suarez header for the third was not too shabby either.

In the pre match build up I was thinking that a draw was on the cards - indeed if it wasn't for Sturridge and Suarez that would have been the outcome.  But we do have these guys and this was one of the best finishing displays ever seen at Anfield.

In 12 months we have gone from being the toothless tigers to having real bite. If Henderson could start scoring this would be a title chasing team. A couple of sloppy plays in the second half and shots off target mean he is the weak link in the midfield. But improving no doubt and the only way he will get better is to play games.

Of course you could replace him in the January window but all that is missing from this kids game is his composure in front of goal. Sometimes players never get that and sometimes it comes late in their career.

Sometimes they just need a lucky break where they connect with a beauty and never look back

A wonderful Reds performance peppered with great displays from MOM Suarez for his three goals, A fantastic goal from Sturridge which would grace any game, a majestical Steven Gerrard (how DOES this guy keep his head out of the clouds?) a back to his best Lucas, Skrtel battling to keep his place, Johnson with a terrific run to beat his man, Henderson with Duracell energy (more shooting practice please) and Mignolet had nothing to do. Cissokho, Toure and Sakho were largely redundant.

Next up Arsenal - the Litmus test.
