And so just as you think you think everything is heading in the right direction and the garden is full of lovely roses all of a sudden you are stopped in your tracks and you start to question your sanity.

Dunkin Donuts! You have got to be kidding me!

It was bad enough having Carlsberg as the sponsors of one of the most professional sports teams in the world but now we have sunk so low as to having one of the USA’s major bakery brands becoming a sponsor.

Is there nothing you wouldn’t do for money?

The press release that accompanied the announcement basically said it all. The club needs to compete in the transfer market and there is a “finite market” of sponsors who are in the global market.

Whether you like it or not, financially it makes sense and it will give a good boost to the coffers - but really? Getting into bed with Dunkin’ Donuts - one of the unhealthiest foods on the planet really has nothing to do with sport at all.

Anyway let’s look at things on the pitch.

After scoring five goals at Stoke and winning at the Britannia Stadium for the first time in Premier league history, Liverpool will be going into this game brimming with confidence. Sturridge made an immediate impact coming off the bench setting up a goal for Suarez and being agile enough and having the presence of mind to control the rebound and score for himself.

The questions over this Liverpool team remain:

How many more goals is this defence going to let in this season?

How many more goals is this midfield not going to score this season?

Maybe I’m just being churlish after all, fourth in the league is not such a bad place to be and the goals scored column looks positively radiant, it’s just that you always have that niggle at the back of your mind that tells you that something is not quite right.

I’m sure Brendan Rodgers will be looking in the January transfer window to see if he can bring in any talent that is better than what we have. But to be sure we have enough talent for the future to be going on with.

So let’s look at where our bets should be going on Saturday:

Liverpool are best priced 1/4 to win this game and given the historical propensity to fuck up just when things are going well I wouldn’t be betting on that any time soon.

By contrast the Villa are a massive 14 to 1 but I just can’t see that happening can you? This has to be a home win and with Suarez and Sturridge in tandem I don’t see any other result.

A decent bet for this game is Martin Skrtel to be first goal scorer at 30/1. Considering that Liverpool are likely to be on the front foot for most of this game and probably getting a high percentage of corners, betting on a Martin Skrtel trademark header looks like good value.

30/1 at bet365 is too tempting to pass up £10 wins £310
