Best Bookmaker Coverage

Whenever it comes to a fixture between these two sides whether home or away I’m always transported back to 1989 and that famous Michael Thomas goal that gave Arsenal a two nil victory at Anfield with virtually the last kick of the game.

As the goal difference was the same for both sides Arsenal won the title by virtue of the goals scored column, I’ve included a link to the you Tube video for those of you who weren’t even born when that game took place!

In the same fixture last season Liverpool were looking comfortable winners as they strode into a two-goal lead but were pegged back by the gunners and the game finished 2-2. I’ll make no secret of the fact that I’m hoping for a repeat performance from the Reds and I think a draw will be a good result to take away from the Emirates.

This week Daniel Agger went crying to the press because since he lost his place to injury, he has not featured in Brendan Rodgers starting 11. But what he should be doing is getting his head down and concentrating on maintaining his fitness so that he is ready to go and take advantage of any injury opportunity that may come his way in the future.

Saying that he wants away because he is not playing is not going to endear him to the manager who is sticking by his principal of picking the players who are in form. Just ask Martin Skrtel about that one.

In any case having the Danish international captain on the bench is a measure of the huge progress that Liverpool have made since last season and he should be quietly confident of regaining his place in a successful team. Not crying like a baby just because it is not going your way.

As I’ve mentioned before in this column not being present in the Europa league and having horrible Thursday night fixtures to fulfil as well as exiting the Capital one cup at an early stage means that the Reds will be going into this fixture fresh and full of confidence and the manager can just concentrate on picking his best team week in week out until after Christmas when the FA Cup begins.

Jose Enrique should return this week on the left side of defence in place of Cissokho who, whilst being a consistent performer, looks like he needs to improve a bit more to cement his place.

The big question for Brendan Rodgers is whether to start Coutinho in the place of Henderson in midfield. Henderson has been improving game after game and has boundless Duracell energy, the only fault in his game at the moment is his shooting. But he has shown in the past that he has the class to finish with expert skill and is just a matter of time surely.

I think the manager will go with Henderson to try and dominate the midfield along with Gerrard and Lucas. Starting with Coutinho who is just coming back from injury and then replacing him with Henderson if things are not going to plan would be a backward step.

A draw would be a fantastic result for Liverpool and not a bad one for Arsenal although the home team are missing Arteta through suspension which will be a big loss and I’m expecting the away team to have a good chunk of possession in this game. Any decent ball fed to Suarez or Sturridge or for that matter any half decent ball is looking like hitting the back of the net at the moment and it is a good few years since Liverpool have had a strikeforce as potent as this.

The draw is 5/2. £10 returns £35 if it ends all square.
