Adrian Lewis: A Victory for Darts
Last nights darts final never reached the heights of both semi finals which went before it but all the same Adrian Lewis proved that along with his undoubted talent he also has the other ingredient you need for sustained success – Luck.
Against James Wade in the semi final he was toiling horribly when inexplicably Wade pressed the self destruct button and let a 5-1 lead slip through his fingers. Twice Wade had doubles to win the match and twice he fluffed his lines letting Lewis off the hook.
Hamilton was a steady performer in the final but he couldn’t find the extra flashes of brilliance he needed at the right times to match his opponent and Lewis seemed to be able to play average darts for most of the match whilst turning on the tap occasionally and showing the fluidity and raw talent he has for the game.
Twice Lewis had a shot at double twelve for a nine dart finish and it always seemed that when he needed to pull out the shots he had it in the locker and Hamilton was never able to get out of third gear.
Whitlock missed his chance in the other Semi and should have beaten Hamilton to take the title, he was a much more consistent performer throughout the tournament and along with Wade should never have let his lead slip in the Semi.
Overall it was a fantastic tournament and whilst our value bet (Whitlock) only made the semis it was still a good punt and keep your eye on him for a future value bet.
