Manny Pacquaio is the bookies favourite to win this fight at 1.4 with Marquez at 3.5 with Paddy Power.
Marquez looks good value at that price and I'm backing him to finally beat Pacquaio and for the judges to agree as well – which they failed to do last time even though it was universally agreed that Marquez had the best of the fight.
More to the point why are we revisiting this match up?
The 39 year old Marquez is clearly a worthy contender but with no actual belts on the line this fight just shows the paucity of this division and the fight that everyone wants to see – Mayweather v Pacquaio just seems to keep fading into the distance.
Whatever the rights and wrongs I believe that Marquez has been hard done by and even though he met the canvas three times in his first fight he still overpowered Pacquaio and was hard done by not to get the decision in that fight as well.
For this fight Marquez has trained harder and longer than any other. Ricky Hatton said that as well for his comeback fight and look what happened. Although to be fair that body punch that Hatton took was out of left field and even though he was tiring badly he would have held on to win the fight.
Marquez has been on the wrong end of the judges decisions twice and with the split decision going against him in 2007 he has a valid case for being persecuted but the prosecution will cite numerous knockdowns to blow his case out of the water.
This has to be the last time these two meet and Marquez has to find something extra if he is going to win over the judges. It is going to be a war just like all the others but with no title at stake it is a pretty meaningless encounter unless you are a dedicated fight fan, purist or boxing historian.
I'm backing Marquez to win simply because he won the last fight even though the judges failed to agree and the other two fights have been marginal – you could even argue Marquez won the first.
Both fighters have the mettle that mere mortals can only dream of which is what makes fights between these two so absorbing.
