Amir Khan v Carlos Molina Preview Boxing Betting Tips

Essential Betting Facts

Competition
Boxing

The Bolton fighter is licking his wounds after being defeated by Danny Garcia back in July and if he manages to jut out his glass chin one more time then it is going to be a long lonely road back for Amir Khan.

That's if he doesn't retire, which at the age of 26 is pretty unthinkable for such a talented boxer.

Against Garcia, Khan was winning the fight comfortably and dishing out a boxing lesson until his opponent managed to land a beauty of a right hook flush on the jaw and from there Khan never recovered taking an eight count and being deemed unable to defend himself by the referee after two more knock downs.

Danny Garcia was an 8-1 shot to win the fight by knockout so equate that with the 9-1 on offer from Stan James for Carlos Molina to do the same thing.

Garcia now has a 24 fight unbeaten record and Molina comes into this one with seventeen fights unbeaten. But that's where the similarities end.

Molina is coming into this fight making a weight jump from 135 to 140 pounds and his record suggests that even at the lighter weight he doesn't have the devastating ammunition needed to land a knockout blow with seven knockouts and ten results coming by way of judge's decision.

To knockout Khan all you have to do is to be able to take the punishment that his fast hands deliver and then wait for the opportunity to counter when he loses concentration or he gets cocky both traits which have cost the Bolton fighter dearly.

Maybe Khan should stick to street fighting as he and his brother handed out a beating to a couple of chancers who tried to steal his Range Rover in Birmingham not so long ago. Talk about not doing your homework! Those car thieves got a nasty surprise.

Khan though has changed his trainer since the last fight and is being told that whilst he clearly has talent, he needs to learn boxing "nous" to go with it and for Khan that means working on his defence, if he is going to win the world title then he is going to have to do it by not letting his opponent get a shot at him.

The 9-1 on offer for Molina is sorely tempting but I believe that Khan will start to listen to his trainer and begin to learn how to box rather than just get in the ring and try to show off. He has to or it will be all over for Khan.

If you want to see how a trainer can influence a fighter just look at the recent transformation of Tyson Fury who looked a class apart from Johnson in his last fight simply by sticking to the game plan and not getting involved in anything up close and personal.

Molina then does not have the reach or the punching power to defeat Khan and I expect the Bolton fighter to stick to the game plan and not do anything silly.

How far Khan will go though is questionable. How many champions can you name that can't take a punch? Then again how many champions leave themselves so wide open to a counter?

The 9-1 on offer from Stan James for Molina to win is tempting. Very tempting – how else would a bookie make their money if they didn't get us to part with ours?

The best odds for a Khan win are 1/8 at Ladbrokes - a £10 bet returns £11.25 so I'm keeping my money in the pocket for this one but you might like to take the free bet offer from Stan James and lump on Molina for this one.

That's what free bets are for right?

Get 9/1 at Stan James that Molina wins this fight. A £10 bet returns £90 after deducting your free bet.
